Just a quick note that today is the 11th anniversary of the airing of the first episode of Firefly. Thank you Joss Whedon for giving us this band of lovable space travelers. (Curse you FOX for cancelling it too soon!!) I won’t go on and on waxing poetic about this fabulous show. (You’re welcome haters!) But if you haven’t seen this show, it’s worth becoming a couch potato for a day to binge watch all 14 episodes and the concluding feature film, Serenity. If you love Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Ron Glass, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, Sean Maher, or Joss Whedon, it is a necessity as a true fan that you know this show! And have an impressive ability to throw a quote from the show or film into everyday conversation, including a curse or two in Mandarin.
I have attached a You Tube video, made by user jblottingink, of the 50 best quotes from Firefly and Serenity. The 37th quote, at the 3:00 mark, is my favorite.

Monday and Tuesday of this week, Raleigh, NC became our nation’s capital. Well, part of it became Washington, DC. A few streets and some of our government buildings in downtown stood in for DC on the tv show Homeland. The cast and crew of the Emmy winning show popped into town to film a few scenes for the season 3 premiere. Typically filmed in Charlotte, Raleigh was utilized for this episode because we have a few more buildings with lovely granite exteriors that look reminiscent of the marbled buildings of DC. And they liked the look of our courtroom in the Justice Building, and the interiors of the State Capital Building.
As I headed downtown to check out filming, I was hoping to see Mandy Patinkin and Morena Baccarin being that I am a Princess Bride-loving Browncoat. I was hoping to be the 1 billionth fan to ask Patinkin to do his (more…)

Tuesday night I attended a screening of Mama, Guillermo del Toro’s latest film opening this Friday. Wait….scratch that. It’s not a Guillermo del Toro movie. Well, not totally. And maybe that’s the problem. While all the promos shout del Toro’s name leading you to assume he’s the director, he is really the executive producer. The director (and co-writer along with his wife Barbara and writer Neil Cross) is Andrés Muschietti. Mama is Muschietti’s full-length feature debut. The film is an expansion (albeit slightly altered version) of his short film from 2008 familiarly titled Mamá. His short film (and by short I mean 3 minutes long people!) was popular at European Film Festivals and caught the eye of del Toro, who announced in 2009 that he would help the Muschiettis develop it into a full length feature. Kudos to del Toro for fostering new talent!
At first, I couldn’t decide if the film may have been better served being (more…)

Yesterday I got four passes to two new screenings of Warm Bodies. Yes, I know I have seen it already….a month ago…but I liked it, and was interested in seeing if they’d changed anything. After switching my 7pm tickets with someone’s 7:30pm tickets, I was able to get Courtney and Morgan into the same screening with me. Movie partaaaaaayyy!!! The movie is still funny, sweet and witty, but there were changes. Most of the changes were dialogue related. R was given a little (more…)
